About the Soundtrack
"Mr Music"

A Showtime Original Picture, Mr. Music premieres Sunday, March 14 1999 at 8PM, on the Showtime Cable Network. The film, set in the fast-paced, glam and glitz" world of the music industry, stars legendary Fleetwood Mac frontman and founder, Mick Fleetwood and teen star, Jonathan Tucker (Sleepers).

This "rock and roll" comedy has a fun-filled "music biz" story-line with the ever-present possibility of teen romance for its character played by Tucker. Renown Record Producer and Filmmaker Spencer Proffer brings skill and authenticity to this project. The soundtrack streets nationally on March 9, 1999 and features Rock & Alternative tracks from legends Graham Nash, Pat Benatar, with hot newcomers Caramel, Treble Charger, Reel Big Fish and Blue Flannel. Soundtrack highlights are the stunning rendition of Christine McVie's Fleetwood Mac classic "Songbird" by Eva Cassidy and the soundtrack exclusive, "Top of the World" by Caramel.

About the movie

Our fictional music guru, Simon Eckstal (MICK FLEETWOOD), owner of Tone Records, was a top guitarist on many albums with the likes of Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix and Paul McCartney. He used his success to start his own label so that he could nurture new talent on his terms. Now, years later, his once thriving business has lost so much money that he's on the verge of bankruptcy.

"We can't get bands, without publicity, and we can't get publicity without bands," he bemoans to his buddy Davey (DAN GALLAGHER), a disc jockey at the local rock station who is running a promotion for the hottest new band, CARAMEL (played by themselves), aimed at their teenage listeners. As they discuss Simon's dilemma, Davey is scanning video footage of various kids stating reasons why they like Caramel. When Rob Tennant's (JONATHAN TUCKER) face pops onto the monitor, it's his last sentence, "Somebody realized that the kids of today are the ears of tomorrow..." that grabs Simon's attention and sparks an idea.

The next day Rob finds himself not only meeting Caramel, but being asked by Simon to be the new Vice President of Talent for Tone Records! He doesn't realize that he's just a puppet in Simon's scam to get more publicity for his company. Since he's determined to be taken seriously in his position, Rob embraces his newly-appointed responsibilities whole-heartedly.

When he discovers an up and coming band (played by TREBLE CHARGER) at a local club, he takes them into Tone's recording studio and over the course of two days and nights, rearranges and produces their best song into a hit. He decides to sign them there on the spot without Simon's permission. If Simon is promoting to the press that he's Tone Record's new VP of Talent, then he wants to perform in that role!

Will Simon let him do his job? Can this bright and quick-witted teenager save Tone Records? After all, only a 15-year-old will really know what other 15-year-olds want when it comes to music!
